NORTHFIELD, MN (10/19/2012)(readMedia)-- He's at it again.

Last fall, Glenview resident Branden McGarrity broke the Glenbrook South High School boys soccer record with 29 goals during his senior season. Now a freshman at Carleton College, McGarrity scored twice in Tuesday's road win at Northwestern College, breaking the Knights' record for goals scored in a single season.

When McGarrity scored a hat trick in his first collegiate game back on Sept. 1 and added two more goals in his next contest, it quickly became an issue of when-not if-the rookie was going to break the team record. Last week, McGarrity tied Ron Sanders' team standard of 15 goals in a season, a mark established nearly a half-century ago. McGarrity broke the record with a goal in the 54th minute on Tuesday and added another less than two minutes later, his fifth multi-goal match of the season and raising his total to 17 for the season, tops in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). That figure is tied for 10th in conference history and the most goals scored by a MIAC player since Macalester's Kimani Williams tallied 22 back in 2001.

This is the second team record McGarrity has broken in the last week. He eclipsed the Carleton mark for points in a season, surpassing the 32 registered by George Monyemangene in 1987. After yesterday's performance, McGarrity now has 38 points after tallying 17 goals and 4 assists this season. (NOTE: Two "points" are awarded for a goal, one "point" for an assist.)

With Tuesday's victory, the Knights (13-1-1 overall)-who are ranked No. 14 in the latest NSCAA national poll-extended their unbeaten streak to 10 matches as they have outscored the opposition 34-6 over this stretch.
