Global Youth Service Day 2008

Hundreds of young people mobilize to make a difference

JERSEY CITY, NJ (04/25/2008)(readMedia)-- Children for Children (CFC), a not-for-profit organization, in partnership with Fidelity Investments, and University Academy Charter High School, will engage hundreds of young people in Global Youth Service Day projects designed to promote environmental awareness as part of the PSEG Global Green Expo. Participants will promote youth service and environmentally friendly lifestyles at the Expo, which will take place April 25th through April 27th at Liberty State Park in Jersey City.

Approximately 100 University Academy students and Fidelity volunteers will lead projects highlighting the importance of living an environmentally conscious lifestyle as part of the 20th annual Global Youth Service Day activities at the Expo. Projects range from making light switch plate covers and canvas tote bags, to decorating re-usable flower pots and eco-friendly murals. These projects, which have been designed by University Academy students, will then be donated to local organizations.

Global Youth Service Day mobilizes millions of young people worldwide to identify and address community needs through service, puts youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement, and educates the public about the role of youth as leaders and community assets.

The PSEG Global Green Expo’s goal is to inform and inspire people to learn about the latest eco-friendly products, programs and services. Celebrity speakers will include actors and activists Ted Danson and Ed Begley, Jr., Animal Planet television host Jeff Corwin, best-selling author Deirdre Imus (“Greening This!”), and North Jersey healthy living advocate Emme.
