Gluten-Free Dishes Win Over Judges at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/24/2015)(readMedia)-- Daniel Hodges of Des Moines won first place in the Gluten-Free for You and Me contest judged Friday at the 2015 Iowa State Fair.

Julie Petersen of Knoxville grabbed second place, and Mary Kassing of Clive rounded out third place. The judges also awarded an honorable mention to Amy Smith of Winterset.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 226 divisions, 883 classes and over 10,500 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
