STAUNTON, VA (05/02/2011)(readMedia)-- Staunton Parks & Recreation will be holding a Golf Tournament at Gypsy Hill Park this summer on Saturday, June 25 to raise money for a Youth and Teen Scholarship fund. The fund will be used to subsidize underprivileged local youth/teens participation in our recreation programs. Currently there is no such scholarship fund, and we need the community's help to achieve this lofty goal.

Many other Parks & Recreation Departments have such funds, and Staunton does get calls asking about assistance. We hope that, with this new fund, youth and teens can apply for assistance to programs, trips and athletics which will introduce them to new experiences they might not otherwise be able to enjoy. All proceeds will go to the scholarship fund, from which families of youth and teens may apply for needed funding.

The price to play in the tournament is $35 and includes lunch. Mulligans will be sold on site. Prizes for the tournament have yet to be determined. Major Shout Out to businesses, organizations or individuals would like to sponsor a hole on the golf course, they may do so for a fee of $50, or for a more noticeable location, the putting green or tee box are available for a fee of $75. The Parks & Recreation department is also looking for a title sponsor. If interested, please contact Claire Anderson at (540) 332-3945 or andersonca@ci.staunton.va.us
