Governor Cuomo Directs Flags to Half-Staff

ALBANY, NY (01/14/2011)(readMedia)-- Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, January 18 in honor of three Fort Drum soldiers who died in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan on January 12.

The three soldiers died of wounds received from an improvised explosive device. Killed were: Army Sergeant Omar Aceves of El Paso, Texas; Specialist Jarrid L. King of Erie, Pennsylvania; and Private 1st Class Benjamin G. Moore of Robbinsville, New Jersey. The three soldiers were assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion of the 10th Sustainment Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division.

"On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend our deepest sympathy to the family, the friends, and the fellow soldiers of Sergeant Aceves, Specialist King, and Private 1st Class Moore," Governor Cuomo said. "We mourn their loss but we remember their service to our nation and honor them for it."

Governor Cuomo has directed the flags on all State buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor of and tribute to our State's service members who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
