ALBANY, NY (09/23/2010)(readMedia)-- Governor David A. Paterson today accepted the resignation of John C. Egan, the Commissioner of the Office of General Services, effective October 6. On behalf of all New Yorkers, especially those in his native North Country, I would like to thank him for his commitment," Governor Paterson said. "Commissioner Egan has embraced the policies of my administration and done exemplary work including increasing opportunities for Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs), reducing the State's energy costs by 14 percent since 2007 and implementing initiatives associated with the State's portfolio of leases and procurement contracts that have resulted in $21.5 million in savings or recoveries to the State, municipalities and others. It is only fitting that he continue to serve his community moving forward."

Commissioner John Egan said: "The last several years have been some of the most challenging, yet rewarding in my public service career. Governor Paterson has faced unprecedented obstacles during his term and has faced them head-on. I am proud that the hard working and talented people at OGS were able to help put policy into practice by reducing costs and increasing efficiencies statewide."

Upon the creation of the Office of General Services in 1961, Egan was a key member of the team constructing the Harriman Office Building Campus, the Empire State Plaza, and many other State facilities, including Correctional and Public Health Institutions.

Mr. Egan's distinguished career with the State of New York spans more than 50 years, including serving as Executive Director of the New York State Dormitory Authority and Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation. Mr. Egan currently serves as Chairman of the Harriman Research and Technology Development Corporation and was Executive Director of the New York State Task Force on High Speed Rail. Previously, Mr. Egan also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Albany International Airport from 1995 to 2003, overseeing development of the new airport complex.
