Governor Paterson Announces Administration Appointment

ALBANY, NY (03/17/2010)(readMedia)-- Governor David A. Paterson today announced the appointment of Morgan Hook as Director of Communications. Mr. Hook joined the Executive Chamber in January 2008. He has managed Governor Paterson's Albany press office since May of 2008 and most recently served as Upstate Press Secretary for Governor Paterson.

"Morgan Hook has been a key member of my staff for the last two years, contributing extensive media expertise with a strong commitment to public service," Governor Paterson said. "I look forward to working with Morgan on behalf of the people of New York. I know he will continue to serve the State well in his new role."

In his position as Upstate Press Secretary for Governor Paterson, Mr. Hook was responsible for all aspects of the upstate communications strategy. He has served as the point person for all issues related to upstate New York, including traveling with the Governor for all public events to discuss the fiscal crisis, economic development, and other issues.

Mr. Hook holds a B.S. in broadcast journalism from Boston University. He has extensive experience in journalism, previously working as a reporter and anchor for a number of television stations, including CBS Channel 6 in Albany, NBC Channel 22 in Springfield, Massachusetts and NBC Channel 12 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He also produced documentaries for PBS in Harrisonburg, Virginia where he received an Emmy nomination from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter in 2002.

Mr. Hook's appointment is effective immediately.

As Communications Director, Mr. Hook will receive an annual salary of $154,000. This appointment does not require Senate confirmation.
