Governor Paterson Announces Special Session Agenda

ALBANY, NY (11/23/2010)(readMedia)-- Governor David A. Paterson today announced the agenda for the extraordinary session of the Legislature, on Monday, November 29 at 3:00 p.m. Governor Paterson called for special session to address the $315 million current-year deficit and additional legislation that was not completed at the end of regular session.

"We have an obligation to ensure that the people's work is done promptly and completely," Governor Paterson said. "Once again, our State faces a budget shortfall and other issues that must be addressed by the Legislature, which is why I have called for extraordinary session. I look forward to working with my colleagues in government to take the actions necessary to complete this work and fulfill our duties as public servants."

The full agenda for the extraordinary session of the Legislature includes:

• Enacting a plan to provide for adequate savings and implementation of other measures to allow for the continued operation of the New York City Off-Track Betting Corporation;

• Enacting legislation that would implement provisions of the 2010-11 budget for Education, Labor and Family Assistance;

• Reducing expenditures for the 2010-11 budget;

• Amending Chapter 536 of the Laws of 2010 concerning the jurisdiction of the Division of Human Rights over claims made under that statute;

• Amending Chapter 225 of the Laws of 2010 concerning the effective date of that provision and the time for covered entities to come into compliance;

• Eliminating the notification required prior to the closure of State facilities;

• Renaming the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel for Governor Hugh L. Carey;

• Appropriating funds received through the federal education jobs fund program;

• Authorizing the Dormitory Authority to create a subsidiary to hold certain properties currently in the possession of North General Hospital; and

• Creating a commission to evaluate and adjust judicial salaries.

Governor Paterson also called for the State Senate to act on the 147 gubernatorial nominations currently pending.
