Governor Paterson Appoints Justice Jeffrey A. Cohen to Fill Vacancy in the Appellate Division

ALBANY, NY (12/09/2010)(readMedia)-- Governor David A. Paterson today announced the appointment of Justice Jeffery A. Cohen to the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department.

"I am proud to nominate such an accomplished and respected jurist to the Appellate Division," Governor Paterson said. "Justice Cohen's experience and dedication on the bench will be a tremendous addition to the Appellate Division."

The Honorable Jeffery A. Cohen currently serves as a Justice of the Supreme Court, Ninth Judicial District, a position he has held since 2010. Justice Cohen received his B.A. from New York University in 1971. He received his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in 1975. In 1976, he was the Confidential Law Clerk to a Westchester County Court Judge. From 1977 to 1981, and in 1985, he was a Trial Attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Westchester County. From 1985 to 2006, he was a Founding Partner at Cohen, Timko & Moses LLP. From 1990 to 2006, he was a Town Justice of the Town of Yorktown. From 1999 to 2006, he was an Acting Judge of the City Courts of Yonkers, White Plaints, Mt. Vernon, Peekskill and New Rochelle. From 2007 to 2009, he was a Judge of the Westchester County Court.

The annual salary for Justices of the Appellate Division is $144,000. This designation is not subject to Senate confirmation.
