Grace Griffin of Keswick Wins First Place in Connecticut College's Annual LINCC Photography Contest
NEW LONDON, CT (03/08/2011)(readMedia)-- Grace Griffin, a freshman at Connecticut College, won first place in Connecticut College's annual LINCC (Linking New London and Connecticut College Communities) photography contest.
Griffin, a graduate of Saint Anne's-Belfield School and a resident of Keswick, is the daughter of Michele Griffin of Keswick, Va., and John Griffin of Crozet, Va. She took her prize-winning photo in Connecticut College's Arboretum while taking a walk with friends.
"I thought the light coming through the trees was really pretty, so I took it while my friend ran ahead," she explained. "I like taking photographs where the subject's back is turned because it makes the subject unidentifiable, giving the photograph a sense of mystery. This sense of mystery, combined with the lighting and setting, in my opinion, gives the photograph a fairy tale-like appearance."
The annual photography contest is sponsored by LINCC, a student club, to allow students to explore the relationship between the College and New London in photos.
This year's contest was held in conjunction with Connecticut College's centennial celebrations. The photographs were on display in the Provenance Center in New London from Jan. 29 through March 1.
