Graduating seniors at Geneva College exit campus through new archway
BEAVER FALLS, PA (05/13/2009)(readMedia)-- On Friday, May 15 at 11 a.m. Geneva College President Ken Smith will usher graduating seniors through the new archway and over the just-opened threshold of the campus - symbolizing their exit from the college and entrance into the world. As part of a multi-phased Beyond the Bend construction project, the Beaver Falls college is opening a new entranceway, the first in its 160-year history, at Route 18 and 31st Street in Beaver Falls, Pa.
The occasion will be marked with a special ceremony involving graduating seniors. Four years ago President Ken Smith made a promise to the incoming freshman that when they graduated they would leave through the new front door of the campus. With the opening of the new entranceway, that promise will be kept.
Dr. Ken Smith noted, "The campus was very different four years ago when the students entered Geneva College. They were very different, too. Our mission here at Geneva is to prepare students to fulfill God's calling in their life - and when they leave here they're ready to make an impact for Christ at work, at church, at home or in their community. Ushering them out of the campus and into the world is very fitting."
The entryway will open to traffic in time for adult and graduate commencement on Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. The new entrance includes a 60-foot long arched gateway with 28-inch high letters spelling out Geneva College, leading to a tree-lined, lighted boulevard.
Baccalaureate will be on Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. The traditional senior brunch will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m., before the seniors usher through the new front door of the campus. Undergraduate commencement will be on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m.
