Great Midwest Honors Nine Trevecca Women's Soccer Players
NASHVILLE, TN (11/06/2012)(readMedia)-- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced the 2012 women's soccer All-Conference team and nine Trevecca players made the team. Trevecca coach Brett Armstrong and goalkeeper Bekah Headrick (senior, Aaron Christian Academy, Hendersonville, Tenn.) took home two of the four major awards.
The honors come after the Trojans finished conference play undefeated and didn't allow a goal in any of their three conference matches.
Along with the selections, head coach Brett Armstrong was named the 2012 G-MAC Coach of the Year. Armstrong has led the program to its best season in school history and its first conference championship.
Senior goalkeeper Bekah Headrick was a First Team selection and was also named the G-MAC Defensive Player of the Year. Headrick led the conference in several statistical categories including goals against average (0.34) and shutouts (10).
Joining Headrick on the first-team were forwards Kayla VanEs (senior, Hendersonville High School, Gallatin, Tenn.) and Brooke Gann (sophomore, East Ridge High School, Chattanooga, Tenn.) along with midfielder Anna Hoffman (fresman, Chattanooga Christian, Chattanooga, Tenn.) and defenders Erica Carroll (junior, Silverdale Baptist Academy, Chattanooga, Tenn.)and Kate Worley (senior, toledo Christian High School, Maumee, Ohio). VanEs had two goals and four assists for a total of eight points. Gann led TNU with eight goals and added an assist for 17 points. Hoffman added five goals and 10 points in her inaugural campaign. Carroll is a part of a record setting defense and added a goal as well. Worley also played on the lock down defense and scored one goal on the season.
Three more Trojans made the Second Team. Midfielders Becky Bartos (junior, Waubonsee Community College, North Aurora, Ill.) and Lanie Foutch (junior, Hendersonville High School, Hendersonville, Tenn.) were selected along with defender Jordan Ponto (sophomore, Bradenton Christian School, Bradenton, Fla.).Bartos scored two goals and four assists for a total of eight points. Ponto and Foutch were a part of the team that has a record breaking 10 wins and 10 shutouts this season. Foutch had one assist.
The Trojans placed more individuals on the All-Conference teams than any other school.
Trevecca Nazarene University is a Christian liberal arts university located in Nashville, Tenn., Music City, USA.
