Group to Release Annual "Green" Scorecard & Name New York's Best & Worst Legislators in 2009 Voters' Guide
ALBANY, NY (10/20/2009)(readMedia)-- EPL/Environmental Advocates will announce the 2009 "Legislator of the Year" during the release of the group's annual environmental Voters' Guide on October 20th. Legislator of the Year honors are awarded to the state lawmaker or public figure who has helped advance environmentally beneficial legislation during the 2009 New York State Legislative Session. EPL will also announce this year's "Oil Slick" award, typically given to the public figure who has done the most to derail environmental protections in New York. The annual Voters' Guide is the only scorecard that documents the environmental voting records of every member of the New York State Legislature. The green scorecard also tracks scoring differences between houses and political parties.
| WHO: | EPL/Environmental Advocates' Executive Director Robert Moore will announce the Legislator of the Year and Oil Slick awards, and commend the state lawmakers who voted consistently to protect our air, land and water during the 2009 Legislative Session. |
| WHAT: | For 40 years, EPL/Environmental Advocates has documented the voting records of state legislators in New York's first-and-only environmental Voters' Guide. EPL calculates lawmakers' green grades in the annual scorecard by recording votes for or against significant environmental bills acted upon during the State Legislative Session. |
| WHEN: | Tuesday October 20, 2009 at 11:30AM Eastern Time (US & Canada) |
| WHERE: | LCA Press Room, Rm 130 Legislative Office Building New York State Capitol Albany , New York 12204 |
| NOTES: | EPL/Environmental Advocates was founded in 1969 as one of the first organizations in the nation to advocate for the future of a state's environment and the health of its citizens. Through lobbying, advocacy, coalition building, citizen education and policy development, EPL ensures that environmental laws are enforced, new measures are enacted when necessary, and the public is informed of, and participates in, important policy debates. |
