Guilford Student Wins Senior Award at University of Vermont Commencement
BURLINGTON, VT (06/02/2011)(readMedia)-- Jason DePatie, a Guilford, Ct. resident, graduated with a double major in political science and geography from the University of Vermont this May. At the commencement ceremony, DePatie was presented with the Class of '67 Award, which recognizes a senior student who has been an active member of the university community in student organizations, leadership, and/or varsity athletics.
DePatie's campus activities included serving as a member of the University of Vermont Board of Trustees, as a rower and fundraiser for the UVM Crew Team, on the Alumni Affairs and Gift Committee for the Class Council, as a member of the UVM Ski and Snowboard Club, and as a desk assistant at the Learning Co-op.
DePatie captured his UVM experience with these words: "UVM is a truly unique and special place which has given me the opportunities, friends, experiences, and most importantly challenges for which I am forever thankful."
Chartered in 1791, UVM was the first college or university in the United States that did not give preference to a religious sect in its charter. UVM now has nearly 10,460 undergraduates in seven schools and colleges, 1,490 graduate students and 452 medical students. As a small, comprehensive university, it blends the academic heritage of a private university with services missions in the land-grant tradition.
