ALBANY, NY (12/02/2009)(readMedia)-- H. Douglas (Doug) Guevara of Middleburgh has joined the New York State Bar Association as its new senior director of continuing legal education (CLE). As senior director, Guevara will lead the State Bar's CLE Department in the presentation of approximately 235 live continuing legal education programs each year, the production of audio, video and on-line educational materials, and the publication of reference books, supplements and form products. He joined the State Bar on October 29, and assumed his new position on November 30 after his predecessor Terry Brooks retired after 33 years of service.

"Doug Guevara offers a wealth of knowledge and expertise in building highly successful CLE programs and marketing them to a diverse range of practitioners in the legal profession," said Executive Director Patricia K. Bucklin. "I am extremely confident that Doug's innovative spirit and creative use of new technologies will help us to expand our reach to an even broader audience and to strengthen our position as a recognized leader in the CLE field."

Prior to moving to upstate New York, Guevara served for seven years as director of continuing legal education at the New York County Lawyers' Association (NYCLA), where he was responsible for developing, structuring and producing programs for the NYCLA CLE Institute. Guevara also worked as a solo practitioner, specializing in wills and estate planning and real estate transactions.

Previously, Guevara was conference director of the Legal Division of the American Conference Institute, where he developed and produced CLE conferences for the corporate in-house and outside counsel attorney markets. He also served as managing editor for product development and legal acquisitions editor for the West Group and was editor and contributing author to "Environmental Law and Practice," a seven-volume environmental law treatise published by the West Group.

Guevara was an adjunct professor at City University of New York Law School, where he taught an introductory environmental law course. He also was a legal fellow at the Natural Resources Defense Council in New York.

He earned his J.D. at City University of New York Law School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from St. John's University. He is admitted to the bar in the 2nd Department; the U.S. District Court, S.D.N.Y.; the U.S. District Court, E.D.N.Y.; and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Founded in 1876, the 76,000-member New York State Bar Association is the official statewide organization of lawyers in New York and the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. The State Bar's programs and activities have continuously served the public and improved the justice system for more than 130 years.
