EAST GREENBUSH, NY (06/28/2007)(readMedia)-- Congress Member Charles Rangel (D-Harlem) was presented the HCP Annual Congressional Award for his commitment to enhancing access to home and community-based care. New York State Association of Health Care Providers, Inc. (HCP) President Phyllis A. Wang made the announcement and presentation while in Washington, D.C. during HCP’s 10th Annual Congressional Advocacy Day.
“Mr. Rangel has been a staunch health care advocate and long time supporter of home care,” said Wang. “As the dean of the New York Delegation, he can always be depended upon to lead his colleagues in broad support of home and community-based care.”
Rep. Rangel, who has been a regular at HCP’s Annual Congressional Breakfast, took time out of his busy schedule to meet with HCP board members and staff. After the breakfast, HCP members walked to Capitol Hill to meet with nearly every member of the New York Delegation. The issue at the top of the list for home care agencies is a proposed five-year freeze on increases in home health Medicare reimbursement – a move that would severely restrict access to cost-efficient and preferred home care services.
“I thank Mr. Rangel and the entire New York Delegation for their long-standing commitment to home and community-based care. I know they understand the value of home care and look forward to working with them to protect New York from the proposed cuts to home and community-base care,” concluded Wang.
