HESC signs code of conduct for student loan guarantors
ALBANY, NY (04/30/2007)(readMedia)-- The New York State Higher Education Services Corp. (HESC), working with state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, today signed a comprehensive code of conduct for guarantors which regulates student loan activities.
HESC, the state agency that helps people pay for college, "has always embraced the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct" during the agency's 33 years of guaranteeing student loans and administering the state's grants and scholarship program, said HESC President James C. Ross.
"We are pleased to sign this code of conduct and reaffirm our commitment to transparency in all of our dealings with our customers -- students, families, lenders and college financial aid professionals," Ross added.
Several lenders and colleges have signed the attorney general's code of conduct.
"HESC looks forward to continuing its collegial relationship with schools across the state and also with the millions of students and families who rely on HESC for the most current and accessible information about paying for the most important investment they will ever make in themselves -- a college education," the president said.
