Jelis, a resident of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., serves as the Public Affairs Non Commissioned Officer for the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade which deployed to Kuwait in December to provide helicopter support to American military units in that country.

Jelis joined the New York Army National Guard in 2008 and is a graduate of the Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Maryland.

The photographs he's taken while documenting the deployment of the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade and other New York Army National Guard units to Kuwait have been featured on the Department of Defense website and in other publications.
