Harrison Kinser Receives Elizabeth H. Aston and Barbara A. Donan Scholarship for the Study of Education

MILLERSVILLE, PA (05/30/2014)(readMedia)--  Harrison L. Kinser, of Lancaster, Pa., has been selected to receive the Elizabeth H. Aston and Barbara A. Donan Scholarship for the Study of Education Award. Kinser will graduate from Penn Manor High School and will attend Millersville University of Pennsylvania this fall to study middle level English education.

The Aston/Donan Award is an endowed scholarship established by Patrick M. Donan, J.D., Millersville University Class of 1985, in honor of his mother, Barbara Donan, '53 and in memory of his grandmother, Elizabeth Aston, '28. Mrs. Aston taught school at Marticville Elementary School in southern Lancaster County, retiring from there as principal. It is awarded to an incoming freshman from Lancaster County who is pursuing a degree in the teacher preparation program of the School of Education. The scholarship is for $5,370.00.

Kinser, who maintained a high GPA while taking an assortment of honors level courses, was a member of the Varsity Club and played lacrosse in ninth grade and both basketball and football in grades nine through 12. He served as football team captain in his junior and senior years, and was selected to receive an Honorable Mention for Offense and Defense by coaches from throughout the county in the LL Quad A League. Harrison was a "Teen of the Week" in his senior year and was involved in church activities, participating in mission trips as a volunteer.
