HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/23/2013)(readMedia)-- The annual Harvey B. Morgan Award was presented on April 19 to Hampden-Sydney College senior Richard Michael Pantele of Richmond, VA. Established in 2000 by Mary Helen Morgan in honor of her husband, the award is presented annually by the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest to a senior who has successfully completed the College's Public Service Program, who has demonstrated an interest in public service at the local or state level, and whose integrity and excellence of character reflect those qualities as evinced in the life of The Honorable Harvey D. Morgan, Hampden-Sydney College Class of 1952.
A Madison Scholar, Richard served as a member of the Student Court, as Senior Class Campaign Chairman, and as a Resident Advisor. He was President of the social fraternity Chi Phi, Vice-President of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship, and Secretary of the honorary society Pi Sigma Alpha (political science). Richard is a member of the honor society Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), the Society of '91 (leadership program) and the Garnet & Grey Society (admissions tour guide). A government major, Richard is a graduate of Mills E. Godwin High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Pantele of Richmond.
