Highland's Vanessa Hartzell named NACC Softball Pitcher of the Week

AURORA, IL (04/24/2014)(readMedia)-- Aurora University sophomore softball pitcher Vanessa Hartzell (Highland, Ind./Bishop Noll H.S.) was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 20.

Hartzell went 3-1 with one save in the circle for the Spartans who went 5-1 on the week. She had three complete games in her three starts on the week and in her 24-1/3 innings pitched, she struck out 33 batters while allowing five runs in five appearances with only two of the runs being earned.

Thus far in 2014, Hartzell has a 10-7 record and three saves with a 2.06 earned run average, 126 strike-outs in 118 innings pitched and 15 complete games. The Spartans are 21-11 overall and 15-3 in the NACC in 2014

Next action for the Spartan softball team comes on Friday, April 25 when they host Alverno College. Game one is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Stuart Sports Complex in Montgomery, Ill. AU Student-Athlete Appreciation Day event will take place and between games will be AU senior day recognition. The first 170 student-athletes in attendance for the softball doubleheader will receive a giveaway and members of the athletic department staff will host a cookout for the student-athletes.
