Hillsborough Residents Honored for Academic Excellence

SCRANTON, PA (06/21/2010)(readMedia)-- Christina Marino and William Pugh, both of Hillsborough, N.J. were among the 57 students who received awards from The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university recognized exceptional students from the Class of 2010 with awards for academic achievement and service.
Marino was the recipient of the Excellence in Latin American Studies Award. She received a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in occupational therapy with a minor in Spanish and a concentration in Latin American studies.
She was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu and the Alpha Mu Gamma honor societies. She participated in Student Occupational Therapy Association and the Spanish Club. She was a Spanish translator at the Leahy Clinic, a work study in the Language Learning Center, a Spanish Tutor, a mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a Christian Life Community Leader, and participated in International Service Program to El Salvador.
She will attend graduate school at The University of Scranton for occupational therapy. She would also like to do an internship or service in a Spanish-speaking country.
She graduated from Immaculata High School, Somerville, NJ.
William Pugh was the recipient of the Excellence in Economics Award, and the Professor Frank C. Brown Award for Excellence in History. He also received Frank J. O'Hara Award for having the highest G.P.A. in Scranton's Kania School of Management.
The recipient of a full-tuition Presidential Scholarship to Scranton, Pugh received a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in economics and history with minors in mathematics, Spanish and finance.
He was a member of the Jesuit university's honors program, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and Alpha Sigma Nu, Beta Gamma Sigma, Omicron Delta Epsilon, Pi Gamma Mu, Pi Alpha Theta and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies.
Pugh was a member of the Business Club, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Executive Treasurer of Student Government. Pugh was a presenter for the 2010 Eastern Economic Association Conference Globalization: An Economic Inevitability, a co-presenter for the 2010 EEA Conference Financial Reporting Quality and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934: Evidence from the Great Depression Period. He participated in study abroad to Guadalajara, Mexico.
He has been awarded a full scholarship to Seton Hall Law School where he will pursue his juris doctorate.
Pugh is a graduate of Immaculata High School, Somerville, N.J.
