Holiday Greeting Cards Created by Kids Now Available at University Hospital

Fundraiser to Benefit Cancer Center Treating Children from 20 Central New York Counties

SYRACUSE, NY (10/28/2008)(readMedia)-- University Hospital’s Cards for Kids fundraiser introduces its 12th edition this year with proceeds benefiting pediatric cancer care.

Since 1996 University Hospital has raised more than $77,000 from the sale of greeting cards created by Central New York children and their families who have been treated at the hospital’s Dr. William J. Waters Center for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders, located at University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

“The Cards for Kids campaign has been so well supported by the community over the years,” said Amanda Trudell, who coordinates the campaign. “We’re pleased to be able to count on so many people across Central New York for their support of this important fundraiser.”

Money raised helps fund patient programs and patient amenities at the center.

This year’s Cards for Kids collection is an all-time favorites edition, featuring 11 brightly colored holiday greeting cards. All cards are imprinted with the greeting “Wishing you Peace, Hope and Happiness this Holiday Season.”

The back of each card lists information about the artist, including name, age and diagnosis. Cards are available in three different packages ranging in price from $15 to $20. The center has been the referral center serving a 20-county area in Central New York from the Canadian border to northern Pennsylvania. The center provides consultative services, diagnostic testing, and treatment for children with various malignancies and hematologic abnormalities. The latter include anemia, neutropenia, hemophilia and sickle cell disease. Nearly 700 children are treated at the center with 50 to 60 new cancer patients evaluated and treated annually.
