Horsham's Dr. Michael Smith Named Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at University of the Sciences

PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/01/2013)(readMedia)-- Dr. Michael A. Smith was named assistant professor of clinical pharmacy at University of the Sciences.

Dr. Smith's teaching responsibilities in the University's Philadelphia College of Pharmacy will include the practice lab and case studies courses. He will also be teaching therapeutics in the spring.

His current research interests involve hepatology and infectious diseases. His goal in studying hepatology is to determine why some patients suffer from mild to severe rashes after using a direct acting antiviral for chronic Hepatitis C infections while others do not. In researching solid organ transplant patients' responses to a potential superbug, he hopes to understand why the infected patients have a wide range of outcomes from rapid death to almost benign bacteremia.

Dr. Smith received his PharmD and his BS in chemistry with a bioscience option from University of Pittsburgh. Before coming to USciences, Dr. Smith worked at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for both PGY1 pharmacy residency and PGY2 internal medicine residency.

Originally from Horsham, Pa., Dr. Smith currently resides in Center City.
