Howard Weyers of Okemos, Mich., to Receive Honorary Degree from Thiel College

GREENVILLE, PA (04/27/2011)(readMedia)-- Howard Weyers '56, an Okemos, Mich., resident and entrepreneur, will receive an honorary doctor of business degree at the Thiel College commencement ceremony on May 8 in Greenville, Pa.
Weyers, a former social studies and history teacher and high school and college football coach, is the founder of Michigan-based Weyco Inc., a third-party administrator for employee benefit plans. He sold Weyco in 2006 to Meritain Health, where he still currently serves as a consultant. He also is a national speaker on the health care industry.
Weyers is an emeritus trustee on the Thiel College Board of Trustees, was inducted into the Thiel College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991 and was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Thiel's Haller Enterprise Institute in 1998. He also is very involved in his community, supporting local hospitals and foundations in Michigan as well as the Children's Miracle Network and the United Way, among others. Weyers and his wife, Kay, were key donors to Thiel's Alumni Stadium and Rissell-Schreyer Dome projects. The Weyers Student Lounge in the college's Howard Miller Student Center is named in honor of the Weyerses. They live in Okemos, Mich., and have two children and two grandchildren.
