Hunter DiPaolo Receives Final Convocation Award at Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2013)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 25, Hampden-Sydney College senior Derek Hunter DiPaolo received the Philip H. Ropp Literary Award, presented by Mr. William D. Hudson '14, Editor of the campus literary magazine, Garnet. The Ropp Award is Hampden-Sydney's highest recognition of literary achievement by a student, with preference given to creative writing. Presented annually by the Board of Publications, the award honors the character and gifts of Dr. Philip Hortenstine Ropp '30, professor of English at Hampden-Sydney from 1935 to 1968.
Hunter is a member of the honor society Sigma Tau Delta (English). An English major, Hunter graduated from Central Senior High School and is the son of Georgia Smith of Dundas and Derek DiPaolo of Richmond.
A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
