I-190 Southbound Lane and Ramp Closures Between Exits 13 & 11 for Weekend of October 23, 2009
Motorists Advised to Follow Signed Detour Route
ALBANY, NY (10/21/2009)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority announced there will be temporary lane and ramp closures southbound along I-190 between Exit 13 (Hertel Avenue) and Exit 11 (Scajaquada Expressway-Route 198) beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009, due to concrete pavement reconstruction work. The scheduled work is weather permitting.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009, until 6 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009, the right lane on I-190 southbound between Exit 13 and Exit 11 will be closed. This work will also require closure of both the entrance ramp from Hamilton Street to I-190 southbound, and the Exit 11 exit ramp, from I-190 southbound to the Scajaquada Expressway (Route 198).
However, during this time, the Hertel Avenue entrance ramp to I-190 southbound will remain open, as will the entrance ramp from the Scajaquada Expressway (Route 198) to I-190 southbound.
A signed detour route will be in place for I-190 southbound traffic destined for Exit 11. Southbound traffic will be directed to continue on I-190 to Exit 9 (Peace Bridge-Canada-Porter Avenue), take a left on Porter Avenue, and then take another left back on to the I-190 northbound ramp proceeding back to Exit 11.
Moderate delays are expected during peak hours. Moderate delays means that motorists' travel times could be delayed 5 to 20 minutes longer than the normal time. Therefore, motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this period.
In addition to the above mentioned concrete pavement reconstruction work, a previously announced maintenance project scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2009, requiring the closure the Scajaquada Expressway (Route 198) westbound to the I-190 southbound, was postponed. This closure is now planned for Sunday, October 25, 2009, from 1 a.m. until noon, weather permitting.
A signed detour route will be in place advising motorists to exit the Scajaquada Expressway at Niagara Street (Route 266) southbound (with a left turn), continuing on Niagara Street where motorists may re-enter Exit 9 (Peace Bridge-Canada-Porter Avenue). Motorists may enter I-190 southbound at the Niagara Street/Busti Avenue ramp.
The Authority will activate Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and Highway Advisory Radio 1610 AM to advise motorists of these closures.
The Authority appreciates motorists' patience while these projects take place.
