I-190 Southbound Weekend Closure Between Exit 11 (Scajaquada Expressway-Route 198) & Exit 14 (Ontario Street)

Motorists Advised to Follow Signed Detour Route Through November 1, 2009

ALBANY, NY (10/06/2009)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority has announced the southbound I-190 between Exit 11 (Scajaquada Expressway-Route 198) and Exit 14 (Ontario Street) will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009 until 6 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2009 for a full-depth pavement reconstruction project. This project will necessitate the same closure every weekend from October 16, through November 1, 2009, weather permitting.

Despite the work taking place, I-190 northbound and southbound will remain open to traffic throughout the Columbus Day weekend, Friday, October 9 through Monday, October, 12, 2009.

During the southbound work, a signed detour route will be in place for southbound motorists directing traffic from I-190 at Exit 14 (Ontario Street) to Niagara Street southbound. Motorists can re-enter I-190 southbound at Exit 9 (Peace Bridge-Canada-Porter Avenue-Busti Avenue).

Motorists will be able to enter I-190 southbound from Route 198 westbound (Scajaquada Expressway) during these closure periods, except on Saturday, October 17, 2009, from 1 a.m. to noon. During this time, the westbound Scajaquada Expressway will also be closed to traffic entering I-190 southbound. This traffic will be detoured to Niagara Street southbound.

The Authority will activate Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and Highway Advisory Radio 1610 AM to advise motorists of the closure.

The Authority appreciates motorists' patience while this project takes place.
