ISU integrated visual arts grad student wins Best of Show in national all-media exhibition

Robert Jinkins, an Iowa State University graduate student in integrated visual arts from Rewey, Wisconsin, won the $1,000 Winifred V. Brown Best of Show award in the Octagon Center for the Arts' 50th Clay, Fiber, Paper, Glass, Metal, Wood National All-Media Exhibit, juried by Peter Pinnell. Painted with raw earth pigments made from natural materials, Jinkins' award-winning "Immigrant: Symphony in Sepia" is a portrait of a friend who was originally from Mexico. The splattered and battered wall behind the figure sympolizes and celebrates the inherent frictions and clashes within diverse approaches culturally and representationally, he said.
