IW Students Complete Student Teaching

On May 15, 2019, six students from the Teacher Education Program completed 16 weeks of student teaching in area schools. Each teacher candidate completes two eight-week placements in different classrooms, buildings and districts in order to gain experience in various grade levels and diverse settings. Student teachers solo teach for a minimum of 10 days in each setting, with many acting as the lead teacher for even longer. During spring 2019, four candidates student taught in elementary settings (Sarah Norvell, Grant Holtkamp, Andreas Edmunds, and Jessica Reu) and two in physical education settings (Nicholas Williams and Caitlyn Welch). Following successful passage of two standardized exit exams, each will be recommended to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for teacher licensure.
