Ice Cream Dessert Title won by Des Moines Youth

DES MOINES, IA (08/23/2017) (readMedia)-- Leeah Hartman of Des Moines won first place and $100 in the Kids Ice Cream Dessert competition, judged Thursday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Collin Houg of Urbandale earned second place and $75. Samantha Hilbert of Urbandale claimed third place and $50.

Youth contestants were tasked with creating an award worthy dessert that featured at least two Blue Bunny ice creams.

Entries were judged on appearance, taste and creativity.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
