SPRINGFIELD, IL (03/19/2014)(readMedia)-- SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Army National Guard (ILARNG) has co-deployed with Poland on every rotation to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2003. Lt. Col. Loren LeGrand of Galena, Ill., commander of Bilateral Embedded Staff Team (BEST) A13, will co-deploy to Afghanistan in early April with Col. Adam Slodczyk, commander of the 10th Logistics Brigade (BDE), to conduct retrograde operations for International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Brig. Gen. Daniel M. Krumrei of Springfield, Ill., the Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, interacted with Illinois and Polish Soldiers during his annual visit to Poland March 8 through 21. While in Poland, he observed joint training and capabilities of the BEST A13 and 10th Logistics BDE. He spoke with Illinois and Polish Soldiers and thanked them for their service and commitment to the mission.

"I'm very proud to see the cooperation between the Illinois National Guard and Poland on these co-deployments," said Krumrei. "It's really been a historic endeavor for our organizations and our commitment to Poland is unwavering."

Before Krumrei's visit, the State Partnership Program (SPP) supported the upcoming deployment by teaching Polish Soldiers the ISAF specific tactical language. During training, Soldiers from Company C, 341st Military Intelligence Battalion in Chicago, Ill., shared lessons on tactical-level operations such as, medical evacuation, improvised explosive device reporting, unexploded explosive ordnance reporting, tactical operations center and cultural awareness in Opole, Poland.

"I was very impressed with the 10th Logistics BDE," said Krumrei. "Their preparation for the deployment is exceptional. The commander and his staff executed comprehensive training that prepares our Soldiers for the current environment and conditions in Afghanistan."
