Illinois National Guard, State Military Museum Kick off Holiday Program

SPRINGFIELD, IL (12/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The Illinois State Military Museum and Illinois National Guard's Family Programs kicked off the "Holiday Greetings for Home Front Heroes" program in the museum lobby Nov. 30 at Camp Lincoln in Springfield.

The program is designed to send holiday greeting cards to the families of deployed Illinois Army and Air National Guard members. Cards are available without charge in the museum for visitors to sign and deposit in a mailbox for distribution by the Family Program staff. Cards can be deposited throughout the holidays until Dec. 31.

After viewing the tree, which is decorated with military ornaments to recognize past and present Soldiers and Airmen, both home and abroad, visitors can view exhibits showing the history of the Illinois National Guard. Museum admission and parking is free. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. For more information on the museum call (217) 761-3910.
