STAUNTON, VA (05/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department in conjuction with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Issac Walton League will crank out another incredible Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 7th. Incredible? Yeah the Fishing Derby coordinator Frank Darcus has overwhelmed the community with an individual effort unmatched in years prior. His Pure energy and a passion for fishing resulted in business and individual donations of over $2000. There are 23 total sponsors with the largest contributions coming from the Bob Dull of the Stop In Shell Station on Churchville Avenue. Not only has Bob donated gift certificates, tons of bubble gum, blow pops and soda but he has also purchased two (2) 20 inch bicycles for one lucky and boy and girl at the event. In addition, the K-Mart of Waynesboro, managed by Steve Claffey will be donating approximately $250 in prizes. Other large contributions have been made by Beverley Street Convenience Store and MadHat Enterprises.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will stock the lake with a variety of fish prior to the event. Trophies are supplied by Will Helmick of the Staunton Eagles Lodge and involves several categories, they are: Largest Non-Trout, Largest Trout, Largest Catfish, Smallest Fish, Most Fish, and the Fish that most resembles Youth Fishing Derby coordinator Frank Darcus.

All Children will receive a free hotdog and drink as well as a goody bag when they register. The Youth Fishing Derby Registration begins at 7:30am and the horn will sound to begin the Derby at 8am. Parents are permitted to cast for their children but not hold the pole or hook the fish. This blow-out is free to any youth age 5-15 years old.
