Independent Report Highlights Cost of New York's Legal System
Reforms Would Lead to Budget Solutions Without Raising Taxes or Cutting Programs
ALBANY, NY (11/16/2009)(readMedia)-- A new report by the Pacific Research Institute will be unveiled that shows how New Yorkers are unnecessarily shouldering the burden of an excessively expensive and inefficient tort liability system through higher product prices, higher insurance premiums, higher taxes, lower wages, lower returns on investment in capital and land, reduced access to health care and less innovation.
The study was commissioned by New Yorkers for Lawsuit Reform (NYLR), a statewide coalition of large and small businesses, farmers, doctors and other health care professionals.
| WHO: | Dr. Lawrence McQuillian of Pacific Research Institute (the study's author) Mark Kriss, Esq., Executive Director of New Yorkers for Lawsuit Reform Kenneth Adams, President/CEO of The Business Council of New York State Michael Elmendorf, State Director of National Federation of Independent Business |
| WHAT: | The study will identify specific reforms which would generate more than $1 billion in new revenues and create tens of thousands of new jobs without raising any taxes or fees.
