Insulation & Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices
BUCHANAN, NY (09/06/2011)(readMedia)-- The Asbestos Workers JAC, Local Union # 91, will conduct a recruitment from September 6, 2011 through September 19, 2011 for three insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the Local Union # 91, 3161 Albany Post Road, Buchanan, NY, Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications will be accepted during the recruitment period or until 30 applications have been issued, whichever comes first. The applications must be returned to the above address no later than Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.
The Committee requires that applicants:
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be physically able to perform the work as determined by Agility test and an apprentice is required to attest to the following criteria on an employment application:
Able to work an 8 hour day continually on your feet.
Able to lift and carry weights in excess of 50 lbs. for extended time periods.
Able to work in adverse weather conditions and in unheated buildings.
Able to work in restrictive or confined spaces.
Able to work at heights in excess of 20 ft.
Able to carry a 12 ft. ladder for a distance of 20 feet and set it up.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and provide for their own transportation to and from the job. Job sites are in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange and Dutchess counties.
• Must take a medical exam including random drug screening-during the probationary period.
• Must be able to purchase text material for use in related training classes as required-approx. cost is $50.00.
• Must be able to purchase hand tools for use in the related training classes and job sites as required-approx. cost is $50.00.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
