Insulators and Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

SYRACUSE, NY (07/27/2010)(readMedia)-- The Heat and Frost Insulators & Allied Workers Local Union #30, will conduct a recruitment from July 28, 2010 through May 25, 2011, for three insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #30's office at 150 Midler Park Drive, Syracuse, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of the months of July, August, September and October of 2010 and February, March, April and May of 2011.

The committee requires that applicants:

* Must be at least 18 years old.

* Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D). Proof required after selection into the program.

* Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by medical exam and drug screening to be paid for by the sponsor, after selection into the program.

* Must claim residency in jurisdiction of Local Union #30 for one (1) year prior to recruitment. The counties included in Local Union #30 jurisdiction are: Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, Schuyler, Seneca, St. Lawrence, Tioga and Tompkins.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
