ANNVILLE, PA (09/08/2010)(readMedia)-- Internationally known pianist Barbara Nissman will play a virtuoso piano performance on Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. in Lutz Hall of the Blair Music Center at Lebanon Valley College. Nissman's performance is part of the College's second Distinguished Artist Series.
Tickets are available in advance from the LVC Music Department for $10 or online and at the door for $15. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
Nissman is also teaching a Master Class on campus Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. in Lutz Hall for students, faculty, and music instructors and students in the region. The class is free and open to the public.
The virtuoso continues the grand bravura tradition of romantic pianism, making it relevant to this century. Nissman's recordings of 20th century composers, Prokofiev, Ginastera, and Bartok, are considered "definitive." She performs with "A winning blend of technical command and interpretive insight," according to The New York Times.
She has performed with many leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony, and the Munich Philharmonic; in the U.S. she has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the National Symphony, and the Cleveland Orchestra among others.
"This year's concert series showcases some of the finest performers in classical music," says Dr. Mark Mecham, chair of the Music Department and Clark and Edna Carmean Distinguished Professor of Music at LVC. "The season opens with a world-renowned pianist and includes an award-winning countertenor and an LVC alumnus known for his own achievements with the U.S. Army Field Band's Chamber Brass, a select ensemble from this top military band."
