Irvine's Kevin Barbrick named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week

The freshman swimmer captured eight victories in nine events

LAKE FOREST, IL (11/16/2011)(readMedia)-- Lake Forest College swimmer Kevin Barbrick (Irvine, Calif./Irvine) was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week Tuesday for his eight victories in nine events during the team's first three meets of the season.

When the league names its first Performer of the Week of the season, accomplishments in all meets to that point are taken into consideration. Lake Forest defeated visiting Monmouth College on October 29 and fell to Carthage College at home on November 5 before finishing first in last Saturday's Monmouth Invitational.

Barbrick, a freshman, won the 50m-freestyle in 25.10 seconds and the 100m-butterfly in 1:00.97 against Monmouth. He also swam a leg on the victorious 200m-medley relay team, which finished in 1:54.06.

Barbrick and the rest of the 200m-medley relay team improved its time to 1:51.14 to edge out Carthage the following Saturday. Barbrick also won the 200m-IM in 2:18.69 and was the runner-up in the 200m-freestyle with a time of 56.37.

Finally, in this past Saturday's team triumph at the seven-team Monmouth Invitational, Barbrick posted three more victories. He continued to swim the butterfly leg on the medley relay team, which won the 400 by nearly eight seconds with a time of 3:43.00. He also finished first in the 100-breaststroke in 1:02.26 and prevailed in the 100-butterfly in 54.39.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director.
