Ithaca Resident Eileen Sommers to Be Inducted into the Suny Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame
OSWEGO, NY (10/18/2010)(readMedia)-- Eileen Sommers of Ithaca will be inducted into the Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame at the 10th annual ceremony and dinner 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Sheldon Hall ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus.
Sommers, a 1983 SUNY Oswego graduate, will be recognized for her achievements in women's basketball.
She became the first women's basketball player to accumulate 1,000 points during her four-year collegiate career. Sommers remains one of the all-time top scorers in women's basketball.
Today the longtime probation officer coaches elementary girls' basketball in the Ithaca City School District.
The Oswego Alumni Association established the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001 to honor players and coaches who made outstanding contributions to Oswego State athletics. Oswego graduates and former athletes Charles Wiltse, James Hauptfleisch, Robert Zabronsky, Barry Dillon and Michael Snell will also be honored along with former Oswego employee Dick Johnson at this year's ceremony.
