It's Hot, Broke Summer! Legislators Tour Brooklyn with Ice Cream to Fight Rising Energy Bills & Climate Change

Assembly Members Mitaynes and Forrest, with Senator Gonzalez and Council Member Restler will hand out free ice cream and build support for The NY-HEAT Act legislation that could reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save NYers $75/month on energy bills

BROOKLYN, NY (08/01/2023) (readMedia)-- New Yorkers are living through extreme weather event after extreme weather event, and are stuck paying increasingly expensive utility bills thanks to ConEd rate hikes during another hot, broke summer. Elected officials will hand out ice cream across Brooklyn to build support for the NY HEAT Act that could reduce energy bills statewide while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. NY HEAT, which gained serious momentum during Albany's 2023 legislative session and passed in the NYS Senate, will stop expansion of the fracked gas system, and save the average low or middle income New Yorker $75/month on their utility bills. On top of the $75 monthly savings, NY HEAT gets rid of the unfair 100-foot rule, which forces New York families to subsidize new gas hookups to the tune of $200 million every year while accelerating fossil fuel generated climate change that supercharges storms and heat, and turned the sky orange this spring.

Electeds will give out free ice cream and educate New Yorkers about how they can save money on energy and save the planet by showing their support for NY HEAT and signing a petition. Come chill with NY HEAT on TUESDAY, AUGUST 1 at the following locations:
