It's Not a Miracle that Area Cooks Whip Up Winners

DES MOINES, IA (09/14/2018) (readMedia)-- Louise Piper from Garner won first place and a $100 gift card in the Miracle Whip Salads competition, judged Saturday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Anita Van Gundy from Des Moines earned second place and a $75 gift card while Olivia Smith from Winterset claimed third place and a $50 gift card.

Entrants were tasked with creating an award worthy salad using Miracle Whip. They are then judged on taste, appearance, originality and the use of Miracle Whip.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
