JCRC-NY & Center for Jewish History to Host Panel on Tackling Antisemitism With K-12 Jewish Identity Education

Expert panelists discuss the role of education in addressing antisemitism in academic settings

NEW YORK, NY (02/27/2025) (readMedia)-- On Wednesday, the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY) will host a panel at the Center for Jewish History on the role of K-12 Jewish identity education in preventing growing antisemitism in higher education. Combating Antisemitism on Campus Through K-12 Jewish Identity Education will feature education experts who will share insights on best practices, challenges, and opportunities for combating antisemitism through culturally responsive, comprehensive Jewish identity curricula and addressing antisemitism in education as it arises. This panel is particularly urgent as incidents of antisemitism on college campuses continue to reach unprecedented levels.

- Professor Natalia Mehlman Petrzela, Historian and author of Classroom Wars who is helping develop a curriculum for NYC Public Schools highlighting the contributions of notable Jewish figures

- Karen Marder, Jewish educator and academic dean at Hillcrest High School who was targeted by students in an antisemitic riot after expressing solidarity with Israel post-Oct 7th

- Professor Ester Fuchs, Director of the Urban and Social Policy Program at Columbia University SIPA and co-author of Columbia’s Antisemitism Taskforce
