JCRC-NY Condemns New School Student Vote, Pledges Unwavering Support for Hillel and Jewish Campus Life

NEW YORK, NY (05/03/2026) (readMedia)-- In response to recent news that the New School student senate voted to cut ties with Hillel, JCRC-NY released the following statement:

Statement from JCRC-NY's President David Moore, Chair Ben Golub, and CEO Mark Treyger

"JCRC-NY stands in unwavering solidarity with New School Hillel and with Hillels across New York and our country that serve as essential centers of Jewish life on campus.

We appreciate the New School administration for swiftly rejecting the unauthorized student government vote targeting Hillel.

We have been in direct contact with the local Hillel chapter to express our full support and unwavering solidarity. We are also grateful for the partnership and leadership of our community allies at UJA-Federation of New York and appreciate the immediate outreach and strong solidarity expressed by Speaker Julie Menin.

For many Jewish students, Hillel is the primary space on campus where they practice their faith, celebrate their culture, express their identity, build community, and feel safe at a time of skyrocketing antisemitism.

Efforts to isolate or remove Hillel from campus life are direct attacks on Jewish identity and Jewish student life. That crosses every red line. No other community would accept being targeted or excluded in this way, and neither will the Jewish community.

It is incumbent upon every college and university administration to reaffirm and double down on its support for Hillel and for Jewish student life on campus.

We will not be silent, we will not stand idle, and we will never abandon Jewish students facing discrimination, exclusion, or intimidation because of who they are. We will always stand with Hillel. Full stop."
