KERRVILLE, TX (02/13/2014)(readMedia)-- Jacob McCanlies of Katy, Texas has been named Schreiner University Student Leader of the Month for January.

McCanlies, a junior honor student, has a double major in finance and accounting. He currently serves as senior resident assistant for The Oaks Apartments, a Schreiner Ambassador, and is a student representative for the NetVUE team. Outside of his on-campus involvement, McCanlies, also volunteers with Kerr County YoungLife, which focuses on building relationships with high school students. In 2013, he also completed an internship with USAA in San Antonio. Eric Booth, assistant dean of housing and judicial affairs at Schreiner, had this to say about McCanlies, "Jacob is a perfect example of a student leader. He is a student that others look up to on campus and serves as a strong role model for those around him. Jacob always carries a positive attitude and works hard to involve others on campus through his role in Residence Life. He has been a great leader on our staff and we are excited to see what he will do next year."

Lori Smith, associate director of residence life and judicial affairs, added that "Jacob is one of the most honest, caring, responsible students we have here at Schreiner. He always represents himself and the university with the highest of integrity."

The Student Leader of the Month, sponsored by Student Services, recognizes a Schreiner University undergraduate student for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities and/or through volunteer and community service programs.
