Jake Crawley Wins Award at 116th Texas Academy of Sciences Meeting

KERRVILLE, TX (03/26/2013)(readMedia)-- Jake Crawley of Kerrville, Texas won an undergraduate presentation award at the Texas Academy of Sciences meeting that Schreiner University hosted in March on campus.

"Schreiner was very well represented at the TAS by our student presenters," said Chris Distel, assistant professor of biology at SU. "To sweeten the experience, our own Jake Crawley won an undergraduate presentation award."

Crawley, a junior biochemistry and psychology major, presented an analysis of malathion uptake in armored catfish-which is an exotic invasive species in Texas-using thin layer chromatography to the more than 500 attendees at the conference.

"I'm so glad I had the opportunity not only to do research, but to be able to present that research to an educated and modern scientific community," Crawley said. "Winning an award was amazing, and just adds to the great experience that undergraduate research at Schreiner and organizations like TAS provide."
