Jan. 30 duo piano recital features Elizabethtown College faculty members
College also hosting guest performer on solo clarinet Jan. 26
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (01/14/2012)(readMedia)-- Justin Badgerow, Elizabethtown College assistant professor of music, and Debra Ronning, lecturer in music and director of keyboard studies at the College, perform the works of Reich, Rachmaninoff and Schubert during a duo piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30. The Monday Series Concert takes place in the College's Zug Recital Hall.
The program features two masterworks of the Romantic Period and a seminal work of the 20th-century American "minimalist" school. The Schubert Fantasie is a lyrical and dramatic single-movement piece for piano duet (two pianists at one piano), and the Rachmaninoff Suite no. 1, op. 5 is a multi-movement work of striking drama and color for piano duo (two pianists at two pianos). The Piano Phase by Steve Reich is for piano duo and is a unique and original piece featuring repetitive melodic figures which "phase" in and out of sync.
Earlier in January, guest artist Christy Banks performs works by Leo Weiner, Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda, Rusty Banks, Malcolm Arnold, Giacomo Miluccio and Bela Kovacs in a solo clarinet recital. Banks will be assisted by Joan Allen on piano during the 7:30 p.m. concert Thursday, Jan. 26, at Zug Recital Hall.
The performances, sponsored by the College's Department of Fine and Performing Arts: Music Division, are open to the public. Admission is free.
