Jerry Pinkney: Imaginings, An Artist’s Exploration of Images and Words, will explore Pinkney’s connection with literature and his creation of the images that bring life to a story.

ANNVILLE, PA (01/04/2016)(readMedia)-- The Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery at Lebanon Valley College is proud to present its first exhibition of the spring semester from January 15 to March 13. Jerry Pinkney: Imaginings, An Artist's Exploration of Images and Words, will explore Pinkney's connection with literature and his creation of the images that bring life to a story.

Throughout his career, Pinkney has illustrated more than 100 children's books, winning the 2010 Caldecott Medal for his work on The Lion and the Mouse. Some of his other works included in the exhibition are from books such as Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Jungle Book, and The Tales of Uncle Remus. On February 1, 2, and 3, Pinkney will visit several LVC classes as well as meet with students from area schools to discuss his art.

Jerry Pinkney: Imaginings: An Artist's Exploration of Images and Words was organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass., and is sponsored by the McCormick Family Foundation, Urban Connection, and contributing members of Friends of the Gallery. This exhibition was supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Artist Talk: Imaginings: Art as a Manuscript: Tuesday, Feb. 2, 5 p.m., Zimmerman Recital Hall

Jerry Pinkney will host the talk, which is open to the public, and a keynote event of this year's Lebanon Valley College Colloquium Series. The 2015–2016 Colloquium Series is dedicated to the issue of "Local Meets Global" and asks individuals to consider their place in the world as a global citizen and part of a larger whole while remaining in any one locale as a singular being.

The Gallery is open on Wednesday from 5–8 p.m., Thursday-Friday from 1–4:30 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Schools and other organizations are encouraged to contact the Gallery for a guided visit.
