Jessica Sendef '21 publishes article in scientific journal for children

Jessica Sendef '21 recently published an article for Frontiers for Young Minds. Carthage College professor Arryn Robbins was a co-author on the article. Sendef is majoring in both psychological science and neuroscience, and serves as a peer tutor for research methods and statistics in the Psychological Science Department.

Sendef's article "How Scientists Use Statistics, Samples, and Probability to Answer Research Questions" was written for children and covers introductory concepts in statistics. Frontiers for Young Minds is a unique journal because the peer-review process is completed by children. For Sendef's article, a 12-year-old child read her manuscript and provided feedback about their interest and understanding of the topic presented in the article.

Frontiers for Young Minds is open access, meaning all articles are free to read online. Many educators use articles from this journal in their classrooms. Sendef's article, which is her first published work, has already had 1,200 views since being published.
