Joe Kelly of Rockville signs National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse for the University of Richmond Spiders

Joe, a senior at Pomfret School in Connecticut, will be playing next year for the U of Richmond's newly formed D-1 Lacrosse program

POMFRET, CT (11/22/2013)(readMedia)-- With his parents and coach and advisor looking on, Joe Kelly, a Pomfret School postgraduate from Rockville, Maryland, signed a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday, November 19, to play Division 1 lacrosse for the University of Richmond.

Having recently joined the expanding Atlantic Sun Conference-which has just added men's lacrosse to its roster of championship sports-the Richmond, Virginia-based school has been busy assembling its first-year D1 lacrosse team. Even though he won't officially become a Spider until next year, Joe is clearly one of their top picks for the team being forged.

"I am honored and very excited to have the opportunity to attend the University of Richmond and join the Spider lacrosse community. It is an excellent school," he added, "and I am looking forward to playing for Coach Chemotti." Faithful to NCAA guidelines, Joe signed the letter well in advance of the NLI deadline.

Joe is clearly relishing his postgraduate experience at Pomfret. "[The School] has been a great fit for me as I prepare for Richmond," he said. "I think it is pretty special that as a PG, I have made some great friends and everyone has been very welcoming. Playing football in the fall was an awesome experience, and I hope to be able to contribute in the spring to the proud and winning tradition built by Coach Sheehan and the Pomfret lacrosse program."
